As 501(c)(3) events, the Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G, Queen Bee Half Marathon and Medpace 4 Miler, TQL Beer Series and FCC 3 Friendly all raise money for various charities. Queen Bee weekend’s charities focus on female-centric non-profits, many of which depend on the funds raised through the event to keep their doors open and programs going. Courtney Kraemer, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Cincinnati, NKY and Dayton regions of Pink Ribbon Girls, writes about how her organization is helped by both the Flying Pig and Queen Bee.
Our organization was founded by breast cancer survivors who have a passion for supporting and empowering others who are currently in the fight against breast and gynecological cancers. We provide free direct services of healthy meals, housecleaning, rides to treatment, and peer support to our clients.
Pink Ribbon Girls was honored to be chosen as one of the charity partners for the inaugural Queen Bee Half Marathon back in 2014. For the Queen Bee we participate by creating a Queen Bee team and have members raise money for Pink Ribbon Girls by asking for support from friends and family.
We raise money in a variety of ways. PRG has a booth at the Queen Bee “Bee-u-Tique” and we have a donation jar out if people want to donate. We’ve also sold items in the past. Volunteers also help at the Queen Bee hydration station with the Cincinnati Parrothead Club. This last October we raised nearly $2,300 from our Queen Bee team, and received almost $200 in donations at the Bee-u-Tique
For the Flying Pig, we participate in the “Piggest Raffle Ever,” and about 10 of us volunteer at the Flying Pig hydration station, again with the Parrothead Club. At our Flying Pig expo booth, we have a donation jar and also sell items.
The money we raise helps us continue to provide support to local Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky families battling breast and gynecological cancers. In fact, many of our team members and volunteers are breast and gynecological cancer survivors who want to hep us raise money in a way that is healthy and beneficial to their bodies, because exercise has been proven to lower the rate of recurrence.
It’s very important to Pink Ribbon Girls and our clients to have local support from the Flying Pig and Queen Bee events, not only for raising money, but also to spread awareness. Our meals, house cleanings, rides to treatment and peer support are all free direct services that PRG provides to local families—your neighbors, your friends, perhaps even yourself. Without this support, we would be unable to provide those services.
Especially during this time of uncertainty, charities need your support now, more than ever. The Flying Pig and Queen Bee organizations have been huge supporters of local charities, including PRG. It’s so great to see the community together, running and walking for the charities in our region. We couldn’t continue our services without your donations.
Please consider donating your registration or go to piggestraffle.com and purchase a raffle entry for $5 each, on behalf of PRG!
